You’re setting up your dating profile when you realize that in the age of Facebook and Instagram you’ve got so many pictures to choose from you’re stumped. Do I include the picture of myself para-sailing, or the picture I snagged of myself in my bathroom? Worry not, dear reader, for I understand the importance of dating profile pictures.
Let’s go over the pictures you should use, and the ones you definitely shouldn’t
Use these pictures:
- At least one Full Body picture
Make sure your date knows what you actually look like, not just your face. It doesn’t matter what your body type is, someone out there is interested. Don’t waste time meeting people who wouldn’t be.
- At least one picture with friends/family
It’s a great way to show that you’re not anti-social in that sociopath way. You know people who like/tolerate you and you feel the same. GOLD STAR!
- At least one picture of yourself smiling
In fact, all of your pictures should be of you smiling, even if you suffer from RBF.
- Activity Pictures
Look at you, being all fun and doing something you love. It could be a picture of yourself hang gliding or something as simple as reading a book you love. Look like you do things besides troll dating sites.
- You + Pets
Nothing is more adorable than small animals. Even more adorable is a picture of yourself plus a small animal. You can also substitute a baby in there, just be clear about whether said baby is yours.
Don’t use these pictures:
- Group shots where you can’t easily be picked out
Please don’t include your class photo and expect people to try to pick you out.
- Pictures with your ex/your ex cropped out
This is a no brainer.
- Cool pictures that don’t include your face in them
It’s great that you visited Machu Picchu but your dating profile isn’t National Geographic.
- Selfies (especially Bathroom selfies)
Are you telling me that you don’t have a good picture of yourself that didn’t occur where people poop? Or that none of your friends can work a smart phone?
- Ab shots
Hey, we all appreciate the hard work it takes to get shredded, but unless you want people to think you’re only down for trips to pound town, avoid posting those pics. It’ll be a much better surprise when you meet in person.
Follow these Dos and Don’ts you should be getting more attention on your profile in no time.
Good Luck Out There.
